# What is SiteBackend?

> SiteBackend gives static sites a form backend and customer testimonials. It handles submissions and testimonials for you, with no server to run.

SiteBackend is the backend a static website doesn't have. It does two jobs:

- **Forms.** Point an HTML form at a SiteBackend endpoint, and it receives the submission, filters spam, stores it, adds the sender to your contacts and notifies you.
- **Testimonials.** Embed a form where customers leave a testimonial, approve the good ones, and show them on your site as a wall, carousel, highlight or rating badge.

Your site stays static: there's no server, database or plugin to run.

## Who is it for?

- **Static and Jamstack sites** built with HTML, Astro, Next.js, Nuxt, Hugo, Eleventy, Jekyll or site builders like Webflow.
- **Freelancers and agencies** who manage forms and testimonials for many clients: each client gets their own workspace.
- **Anyone who doesn't want to maintain a server** just to handle a contact form or show a few testimonials.

## Forms

| Feature | What it means |
| ---------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Form endpoint | A URL you use as your form's `action`. Accepts form posts, `multipart/form-data` and JSON. |
| Spam protection | Honeypot, content filter, rate limiting, and optional Turnstile, hCaptcha or reCAPTCHA. |
| Inbox | Every submission, with unread, starred, spam and archived folders and CSV export. |
| File uploads | Accept attachments, with per-file size and type limits, stored privately. |
| Contacts | A contact per email address on each site, with notes, tags and history. |
| Notifications | Email, Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, Telegram, WhatsApp, Google Sheets and signed webhooks. |
| Auto-reply (Pro) | A confirmation email to the person who submitted, with your own subject and message. |

## Testimonials

| Feature | What it means |
| -------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Collect form | An embeddable form for a testimonial, with an optional star rating, photo, role and company. |
| Approval inbox | Nothing appears on your site until you approve it. Optionally, 4★ and 5★ ones go live on their own. |
| Widgets | Wall, carousel, single highlight or rating badge, in light, dark or auto mode with your accent colour. |
| Embed code | Two lines of HTML. Works on any site, including Next.js, Nuxt and Astro. |

## Plans

**Free** includes one site, 100 submissions a month (extras are kept until you upgrade) and 10 testimonials on show per site. **Pro** is $9/month or $90/year, with unlimited sites, submissions and testimonials, and no SiteBackend branding on widgets. See [plans and limits](https://sitebackend.com/docs/workspace/plans-and-limits).

## How is it organized?

A **workspace** holds your plan and teammates. It contains **sites**, one per website, and each site has its **forms**, **contacts** and **testimonials**. See sites and how it works.

## Where do I start?

- Collecting form submissions: the [quickstart](https://sitebackend.com/docs/forms/quickstart) takes about two minutes.
- Collecting testimonials: follow the [testimonials quickstart](https://sitebackend.com/docs/testimonials/quickstart).
